So as amazing as everyone says Veeam is, including myself, they have a pretty ridiculous and greedy policy designed to try and strong-arm you into keeping support current. This part right here from their licensing FAQ:

Please note: You won’t be able to manage and download license keys if your maintenance expires. Veeam advises customers to always make a backup of all license files.

I have never in my life heard of any company that does this. Microsoft VLSC will let you download past licenses, for free. Same with VMWare.

You know, I paid for this stuff. I should be able to download it whenever I want. I can go back into a Symantec portal account and re-acquire license keys for 7+ year old software.

It's even worse than that. If you ever wish to add more CPUs to a license, they will refuse to merge the old ones with the new if the old licenses are not current with maintenance. If you bought 4 several years ago and wish to add 4 more, you are stuck with the new 4 and cannot combine them, because only one license at a time can be loaded. They essentially are holding your prior purchases for hostage unless you pay up for support. It's utter bullshit.

This amounts to theft, plain and simple.

Here's a thread I started on their official forums. You can see a Veeam employee chiming in there saying that all I have to do is renew my current license to merge it with the new one! Seriously?
